High Rocks
High Rocks is only only a mile away from Flying Horse Cottage. Pop down there for a pub lunch and sit in the garden and watch the steam trains from the Spa Valley Railway go by. You can also explore the ancient stone-age camp at High Rocks, now a National Monument. Enjoy walking between these magnificent sandstone rocks interlinked with eleven bridges.

The George, Frant
In our opinion, the best village pub in the area, and one of the most beautiful walks from Flying Horse Cottage, across Broadwater Warren through Eridge Rocks, Eridge Park up the steep hill into Frant where you will find the George in the quaint high street with the magnificent village church of St. Albans just in front of you. The George has all the character of an old English pub and serves Harveys Ale with good traditional pub-grub. (1.5 hours walk/10 minute drive)

Nevill Crest and Gun
Just a stroll across Broadwater Warren this is the perfect spot to enjoy a pint of ale or supper on a long summer’s evening or just stop by for a drink and rest if you are planning a longer walk. The pub is beamed with lovely fireplaces and several different sitting areas. There is a large terrace outside at the back of the pub and picnic benches in the garden area. (20 minutes walking/4 minutes drive)

The Dorset Arms, Withyham
Privately owned and run by the neighbouring Buckhurst Estate. The bar has retained its pub feel with lovely fireplace, old beams and wooden floor. Walking through to the restaurant there is a homely feel with old sporting prints and bookshelves lining the walls. The food is excellent pub grub. Much of the meat is sourced locally and from the estate. You could cycle there joining the Forest Way path from Groombridge along the disused railway line. (1.5-2 hours walk/10 minutes drive)
