The Bird Hide
The bird hide is accessible by a ramp. Inside the hide a ledge runs across the far side where three windows look out to the south and west so wildlife watchers can rest their binoculars or cameras; two of the windows are on hinges enabling the windows to open 180 degrees. There are benches inside the hide and also a portable table and chairs for guests to use if they prefer to sit outside the front of the hide which on a sunny day is a very sheltered and secluded sun trap.
The bird hide is tucked away in a copse of silver birches and scots pines and has stunning views to the south and west across Broadwater Warren and beyond to Ashdown Forest in the distance. The tower of East Grinstead church is visible some twelve miles away but what is remarkable for the busy south east of England is how few buildings are visible, it is a forest landscape that has hardly changed over the years. We do not charge for using the bird hide, we simply suggest that guests make a donation towards future projects to improve Broadwater Warren as a nature reserve.
